The speciality
Bespoke boozy bakes.
It's written on the sign above their door: bespoke boozy bakes. That's the thing they're known for and the thing they'll make to order — alongside the brownies, traybakes and muffins that fill the case every morning.
The coffee is roasted by Mr Eion over in Stockbridge, and the hot chocolate comes from Edward and Irwyn. They run occasional fests too, including a Sconefest of their own invention.
The counter
Whitewashed brick, red lamps, a case full of it.
Inside: painted brick, a red-brick fireplace with an oil lamp in it, an ornate gilt mirror with the specials written on, and a counter that runs most of the room. The chalk on the glass says everything and its price is on the menu up above — and if you've a question, just ask.
Bespoke bakes
Something made for the occasion.
Birthdays, office bribes, a boozy one for someone who's earned it. Tell them roughly what you're after and they'll come back to you.

The traybakes
Brownies and millionaire's shortbread get named more than anything else, usually with a remark about how substantial a slice is.
Homemade, visibly
People notice that it doesn't look factory-made — uneven, generous, different from one day to the next.
Friendly counter
The welcome comes up often, and so does being talked through what's in the case rather than left to guess.
Visit
Bread Street, near the Grassmarket end.
A short walk up from Fountainbridge and round from the Grassmarket. Look for the red awning and the mural in the window.
